FHCSC Minutes of January 16, 2008
Meeting was held at Sizzler Restaurant in Norco. President Lora Martin and Vice President Erin DiLeo were absent. Secretary Carole Nolten convened the meeting at 7:10 PM. There were 17 members present. The only new attendee was a niece of Julie Dabritz. Minutes were read and approved.
Following this, Sheri Sheldon-Rusk continued the meeting allowing Carole to resume her secretary role. Sheri began by giving an updated treasurer's report. After the holiday expenses, our financial balance is below $2000 ( or $1779.67 to be exact). The club paid for adult guests' dinners as well as the dinners for the children who were present. There are still outstanding bills which need to be paid. We owe the plaque company $91.80. Cost for engraving the bowls was $266.80, and the bill for the dirt girl hats is $200. FHANA still owes the club money for hotel expenses of FHANA judges.
Members shared their thoughts about the Christmas dinner. There was good participation and lots of fun. Some people felt that it lasted a little too long; perhaps we could start earlier, at 6PM. There was strong support for keeping the location in the San Bernardino area as it has a central location. Some suggestions for improving on what we have already done included forming a committee by April so that we have plenty of time to make plans. In fact, this is an item to put on the April agenda. Members were encouraged to email board members with their concerns or suggestions. The board was complimented on being open to feedback, both postive as well as negative. If any of you have pictures of the event you would like to share, please send to Sarah (royalfriesian@yahoo.com).
The Equine Affair was discussed briefly. Neither of the two people directly involved were present, so the conversation was somewhat restricted to emphasizing that volunteers were still needed. Members were encouraged to contact Marc DiLeo if they had questions or concerns.
We also talked about what the club would like to do this year. Some ideas presented were beach parties, a Halloween party, more clinics such as sensory, riding/driving and trick training, marching in the Swallows' Day Parade and Wiggle Walk Parade, Redlands Parade and 4th of July Parade at Crestline, and trail riding around Lake Perris. Jan Grant shared that Apple Valley wants to have an equine affair possibly in September.
Jan Grant shared that she was having a used tack sale on February 23, beginning at 9 AM. She invited any interested member to bring their tack (used/new) to sell. The only requirement was to bring your own table for displaying items. Check the club web for Jan's address; she will forward it to Sarah.
There was no report on what happened at the stallion show this month. We are eagerly waiting for those members who attended, to share their experiences at the next meeting.
Final comment was made that we should submit an article for the Friesian magazine; no one volunteered.
Meeting concluded at 8:10 PM after a successful raffle. Next meeting will be February 20 at the Sizzle in Norco.
Minutes submitted for pre-approval by Carole Nolten, Secretary for the FHCSC
